A tribute to one of the great muses of French cinema
During the month of March, La Casa Encendida shines a spotlight on the impeccable acting career of Isabelle Huppert with a programme that reveals how her characters have influenced contemporary filmmakers. Huppert’s masterful performances through the years have led directors to consciously or unconsciously create leading female roles modelled on her in their own films.
“Under the Influence of Isabelle Huppert” presents a series of feature films whose leading ladies were characterised as other roles played by the French actress throughout her career, particularly in the last two decades. Scary Mother, The Kindergarten Teacher and The Innocent introduce us to indomitable women, filmed in the process of emancipation from familial bonds, who ultimately attain freedom by heeding their female intuition. The cycle will conclude with a screening of Abuse of Weakness, a film directed by Catherine Breillat—whose work was celebrated in February at La Casa Encendida with the cycle “Adolescence, Subversion and Rites of Passage”—and starring Isabelle Huppert.
