Contemporary Film: Under the Influence of Yorgos Lanthimos

In April and May, La Casa Encendida will offer a new film cycle dedicated to the legacy of Yorgos Lanthimos in the output of his contemporaries.
“Under the Influence of Yorgos Lanthimos” brings us a programme of psychological thrillers, genre films with violent outbursts, dark comedies and surreal satires directed by six different filmmakers that recall the imagery of Dogtooth’s legendary creator.
The six productions from Iceland, France, Argentina, the Netherlands, Israel and Turkey have much in common with the Greek director’s oeuvre: the same unhealthy atmospheres, the integration of the absurd in everyday life, the mockery of existentialist film, and a spiralling violence as macabre as it is unpredictable.
