The electronic live performances of Nexcyia and Kali Malone, from different but complementary sound universes, unfold scales, rhythms and alternative conceptions of tempo.
Nexcyia
On stage, Nexcyia weaves together soundscapes that reveal different moods, emotions and places with compositions crafted out of found material, noise, granular synthesis and the fluctuation between textures and rhythms.
Nexcyia is a leading figure on London’s ambient scene. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach to music, Nexcyia (the evocative alias of Adam Dove) creates a sound infused with memory and reflections. He released his Origin EP on Takuroku, the in-house label of London’s legendary Cafe OTO, and Crawl on Alien Jams. In recent years, he has performed and exhibited his installation work at London venues like the ICA, Barbican Centre, Cafe OTO, Chisenhale Gallery and IKLECTIK, as well as at Murate Art District in Florence, and others.
Kali Malone
This misleading “drone” label sometimes associated with Kali Malone’s music is nothing more than a calm front for a sound that unfolds like a hazy whirlwind. Her music articulates distinct dynamic and emotive hues that navigate a stunning depth of focuses and approaches. Her live performances also bear testimony to the crucial role that Kali’s sound plays in the worldwide community that has grown up around the pipe organ.
Kali Malone is a Swedish-American composer based in Stockholm. Her compositions implement specific tuning systems in minimalist structures for pipe organs, choirs, chamber music ensembles and electroacoustic formats. She has presented her music at Berlin Atonal, Moogfest, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Philharmonie de Paris, Radio France, Rockefeller Chapel in Chicago, Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, The Southbank Centrer, Bozar, Schauspielhaus, First Congressional Church in Los Angeles, Orgelpark, Unsound Festival, Kanal Pompidou, Église Saint François, Örgryta Kyrka, Johannes Kyrka in Malmö, St. John's Smith Square in London, First Unitarian Church of Brooklyn, and numerous other concert halls, churches and museums across Europe and the US. She works and performs with artists like Stephen O'Malley, Lucy Railton, Frederikke Hoffmeier, Leila Bordreuil, Drew McDowall, Caterina Barbieri and Ellen Arkbro.
