The composer and performer Maite Arroitajauregi, alias Mursego, leads a workshop on the role of music in cinema through a practical experiment.
Drawing on the process she uses to compose soundtracks, Mursego explores how to leave the images aside and tell one’s own story.
The workshop consists of a theoretical part and a practical session in which legendary scenes in the history of cinema will be set to music. To do this, participants will engage in a series of exercises designed to explore the sound possibilities of our bodies.
No previous knowledge of music is required, only the ability to play with audiovisual experimentation.
The workshop forms part of the programme of activities for She Makes Noise 2024.
Led by:
Maite Arroitajauregi is a cellist by profession. After playing in indie pop-rock bands like Anari, Lisabö and Xabier Montoia, in 2009 she created Mursego, the solo project through which she has moved towards composition and experimentation with the voice and sound. She has released several albums in which she defines a unique hybrid language that straddles avant-garde, folk and classical music.
She combines her solo project with collaborations in the dance, theatre and cinema worlds. In addition to soundtracks for short films directed by Isaki Lacuesta, she has composed music for feature films like La casa Emak Bakia by Oskar Alegría (2012), Morir by Fernando Franco (2017), Aquelarrede by Pablo Agüero (2020, winner of a Goya award), and Sobre todo de noche by Víctor Iriarte (2023).
Mursego took part in the En Familia programme for She Makes Noise 2019 and we have invited her back to this anniversary edition of the festival to discover more about the educational aspect of her practice.
