Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art and Street Culture
The exhibition Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art and Street Culture explores the latest work of American visual artists whose actions in the early 1990s generated a new understanding of street art revolving around skater, graffiti, punk and hip-hop culture.
Beautiful Losers surveys the output of subcultures whose existence and contributions are largely ignored by the art establishment. These subcultures maintain independent systems of creation, exhibition and reception that only occasionally intersect with those of the "fine art" world.
The show includes selected works (painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, performance and design) by artists such as Barry McGee, Thomas Campbell, Cynthia Connolly, Harmony Korine, Evan Hecox, Jo Jackson, Chris Johanson, Geoff McFetridge, Ryan McGinley, Ryan McGinness, Terry Richardson, Clare E. Rojas, Ed Templeton, Romon Yang, Tobin Yelland, Glen E. Friedman, Ari Marcopoulos and Raymond Pettibon.
