Generación 2023
La Casa Encendida is proud to present the winning artists and projects of the 23rd edition of Generaciones, the competition organised by Fundación Montemadrid to promote young creators and provide them with tools to produce and disseminate their work.
The primary aim of the programme is to offer a platform for contemporary art to showcase and publicise the work of these young creators to critics as well as general audiences.
The Generación 2023 exhibition features different sculptural and audiovisual projects conceived from a spatial logic and organised around terms that question themes related to current issues. The installations and expanded objects are open to completion by spectators as they move through the space.
This year the jury was composed of Aimar Arriola, a freelance curator and associate researcher (2020-2023) at Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao; Yaiza Hernández, lecturer in visual cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London; and Catalina Lozano, chief curator at the Basque contemporary art museum, ARTIUM Museoa.
The winning projects and artists are: Pista de aterrizaje [Landing Strip], by José María Avilés (Cuenca, Ecuador, 1988); ponerse un cojín de sombrero [Wearing a Cushion for a Hat], by Fuentesal Arenillas (Huelva, 1986, and Cádiz, 1989); Un viaje eterno [An Eternal Journey], by Mar Guerrero (Palma de Mallorca, 1991); Tracking Astray, by Gabriel Pericàs (Palma de Mallorca, 1988); Superficie neutra [Neutral Surface], by Mercedes Pimiento (Seville, 1990); Hacia con el brazo (MURO) [To with the Arm (WALL), by Mònica Planes (Barcelona, 1992); NEW DARK AGE, by ¥€$Si PERSE (Internet, 2015 [aka Jesús C.
