La Casa Encendida de Fundación Montemadrid presents a new edition of La Terraza Magnética with the slogan 'In limbo'. Outside and as the sun goes down, eight Friday film screenings and eight Saturday concerts offer a space to explore different dimensions of this life and the afterlife. Films and live performances that take an in-depth look at human nature.

The film programme examines the concept of limbo from fantasy, naturalistic and comic perspectives, reflecting on themes like life after death, loss and mourning or the complex boundaries between the real and imagined in memories. Samsara, the award-winning film by Lois Patiño, opens La Terraza Magnética and After Life, the second movie by the Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda, closes it. In between, the programme includes a double bill featuring the Croatian animation Imbued Life and the cinematic poem Together Apart; Petite Maman, by the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire; The Wolf House, a stop-motion film inspired by the actual case of Colonia Dignidad; the classic Death Becomes Her; the moving drama Aftersun, by Charlotte Wells; and Jim Jarmusch’s particular take on Dracula: Only Lovers Left Alive.

For the Saturday sessions, eight artists delve into the listening and production of radical sounds, with echoes from different parts of the world. Elena Colombi opens the music programme with a performance that invokes stimulating enigmatic atmospheres. Nailah Hunter gives an exclusive performance of her first album Lovegaze, described by The Times as “the missing link between Alice Coltrane and Enya”. The Kenyan artist KMRU is a sound alchemist who creates imaginary post-colonial cities out of recordings made on the streets of different Nairobi neighbourhoods. Tomoko Sauvage uses underwater microphones to immerse the audience in an aquatic space created with the sound of water, ceramics and electronics. Marta de Pascalis dialogues with the stars using a Yahama CS-60 synth. Falyakon mixes traditional Arab music, field recordings and sounds that dialogue with the future of her native country: Palestine. Ivankovà reinterprets New Age ethics and the tenets of deep listening. And to close La Terraza Magnética, the Japanese artist Hatis Noit establishes a connection between the living world and the spiritual world with her unique blend of performance and operatics.

La Terraza Magnética at La Casa Encendida is an exceptional space located between Lavapiés and Arganzuela, a natural rooftop garden with a cafe and views of the city. During the day it offers an oasis of peace in the midst of the city hustle and bustle, attracting numerous students, professionals and tourists. From dusk onwards, it becomes a lively gathering place.

Once again, La Terraza Magnética is organised in collaboration with SON Estrella Galicia as part of the latter's ongoing support for the music programme of La Casa Encendida.
