Puwerty 2021

Puwerty 2021

Puwerty, a portmanteau of the words “power” and “puberty” was born five years ago as the festival of La Casa Encendida that amplifies the voice of young creators.

The festival provides a safe stage for artists under the age of 26 working in the fields of contemporary creation, music, audiovisuals and performance, without the need for the mediation of algorithms.

The new season kicks off with two creative workshops. Eme de Amores, a master of the art of tufting, runs the first one and will show participants how to design and make rugs and mats. In the second one, entitled Mesa de mezclas [Mixing Desk], Irene Sempere examines the creative processes involved in embarking on a new project.

The Puwerty Day session continues with Imagina ser: videojuegos y trabajo [Imagine Being: Video Games and Work], a debate on the increasingly booming entertainment industry that has become a serious professional option for a generation that has grown up surrounded by consoles. Sharing their experience among the pixels are developer Andrea Latorre, illustrator Emi Monserrate and live streamer Chuso Montero.

The music at this fifth edition begins with Peruvian artist Flavia Marsano and her cosy pop and bittersweet stories.

Puwerty Night combines the explosive rhythms of hyperpop and reggaeton. Opening this second session of the festival is Valencian artist Ciberchico, who takes bedroom pop to another level. 9ckles also takes to the stage in the Casa's Courtyard to take audiences on a journey through house, pop and post-punk.  And to close this edition we have Brava, one of the leading lights of the national scene and the more experimental side of reggaeton.

Puwerty 2021 also includes ¿Qué se oye entre el soap y el cutting? [What Can You Hear Between the Soap and the Cutting?], a project by Sara Marhuenda Barberá who proposes a collaborative meeting space where participants can sit down and experiment with the action of cutting soap with their hands. This project won the Inbox competition.

Curated by Ángel Aranda and María del Río.
