  • 8 – 10.30 pm. Movement Radio and La Casa Encendida present: Mediterranean Futures. A contribution to the public programme The Mediterranean: A Round Sea / ARCOmadrid 2023.

The Mediterranean: A Round Sea is the central theme of ARCOmadrid 2023. Curated by Marina Fokidis with advice from Bouchra Khalili, Hila Peleg and Pedro G. Romero, the section features nineteen artists and their galleries from the Mediterranean Basin in a space specially designed by Andrés Jacques Office for Political Innovation, as well as a large number of art, film and flamenco collectives to fill ARCO with diverse forms of creation and discourse.

Mediterranean Futures is a series of online and physical events that explore geographical connections and alternative timelines through the cultures, ideas and peoples of the Mediterranean Basin. The programme conceptualises the Mediterranean as a sea of superimposed cultural and historical currents that transcend the immediate boundaries of borders and fixed, inflexible identities.

    • 8.30 pm - Launching Ceremony, by Marina Gioti. Greece, 2021. 17 min.

Originally conceived to be performed in a shipyard, Launching Ceremony is an audiovisual poem about the ceremonial launching of a new ship embarking on its maiden voyage. Through a reanimation of mid-century archival footage “choreographed” to a theremin score specially commissioned for the project, the work invites viewers to take part in the ceremony and to reflect on free movement and lost futures in an increasingly entrenched world.

Marina Gioti is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Athens, Greece. In her works, which comprise films, installations and multimedia artworks, she often revisits historical periods and events that offer parallel readings to dominant narratives. She has presented her work at festivals all over the world, including Berlinale, Toronto, CPH:DOX and Transmediale. She won the COAL Art and Environment Prize 2022 and is currently a participant of the Onassis AiR Tailor-Made Fellowships programme.

Music: May Roosevelt | Producer: Jacob Moe. A commission by the Syros International Film Festival (SIFF), carried out with the support of the NEON Organisation for Culture and Development, in partnership with the Greek Film Archives.

    • 9 pm - DJ Set: Bill Kouligas

Bill Kouligas, a Berlin-based Greek artist, is the founder, curator and artistic director of the multidisciplinary platform PAN, one of the most exciting and critically acclaimed labels for experimental and electronic music. In almost fifteen years of activity, he has launched artists like Lee Gamble, Arca, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, Yves Tumor and more recently Catalan artist Marina Herlop with her album Pripyat, sharing their futuristic vision.
