Princesses and Darthvaders 2017Duration: | 2 hours 30 minutes |
The 3rd Princesses and Darthvaders Festival opens with a talk by director Bruce LaBruce, who will discuss his movies and show us part of his unclassifiable work. To cap off the evening, the Barcelona electronic art-rock duo Hidrogenesse will offer a DJ set.
Bruce LaBruce
Bruce LaBruce is a filmmaker, photographer, writer and, above all, an iconoclastic artist. He has written and directed nine provocative feature films and twenty shorts that place him in the "queercore" movement. LaBruce is world-renowned for using transgressive narratives to marry the vulgar with the poetic, challenging the limits of taste and our preconceived ideas of the political. His uncomfortable, politically incorrect work has influenced artists as disparate as Harmony Korine, Kurt Cobain and Jeff Koons.
Speaking of his queercore films, LaBruce said, "It's not about your outward appearance or your identity: it's about a philosophy of being. To be queer gives you a unique perspective on the world, and it's a shame to feel like you have to divest yourself of everything that makes you different in order to fit in. Frankly, I'd rather be dead. Undead."
Hidrogenesse
Hidrogenesse is Carlos Ballesteros and Genís Segarra, composers of populist pop songs, producers of romantic/sexual mantras, authors of Situationist dance-floor fillers and performers of the mystical/comical genre. Since the late 1990s, they've released several albums: Así se baila el siglo XX, Eres PC/Eres Mac, Gimnàstica passiva, Animalitos, Un dígito binario dudoso and Roma. The duo has worked with Fangoria, Los Punsetes, La Bien Querida, Javier Mena and others and produced Lidia Damunt's Vigila el fuego and Rock n Roll by Espanto.
