Death Becomes Her, by Robert Zemeckis. USA, 1992. 104 min.

Actress Madeline Ashton “steals” her friend Helen’s fiancé, plastic surgeon Ernest Menville, and marries him. Seven years later, Madeline is obsessed with her physical appearance, Helen is overweight and depressed, and Ernest is a drunk who works as a reconstructive mortician. Another seven years go by and Helen has written a book and, to Madeline’s surprise and horror, is slim and beautiful. The actress begins to fear that Helen will try and steal Ernest back, so she visits a modern witch who gives her a potion to recover her youth. Unfortunately, it has some side effects...

At the start of his career, Robert Zemeckis was mentored by Steven Spielberg, who acted as executive producer for his early films. He got his break-through with Romancing the Stone and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, earning international acclaim with the second and third parts of Back to the Future. He won a Golden Globe and the Directors Guild of America Award for the classic film Forrest Gump, which also notched Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Actor (Tom Hanks) and Best Picture.
