The Adams family tells a macabre story about an occult mother-daughter duo that explores themes like identity and maturity.
Hellbender, directed by Zelda Adams, Toby Poser, John Adams. USA, 2021. 86'. Original soundtrack with Spanish subtitles
Hellbender (USA, 2021) is a ferocious tale of a line of witches living in seclusion, directed by the Adams family (daughter Zelda Adams and her parents Toby Pose and John Adams). The bond between mother and daughter, the power they wield, the music they create in their rock band and the practices they hone contain so much power and punch that it’s impossible not to root for this duo and identify with their plight.
Fun and emotionally nuanced, the film is a delicate and dangerous blend of occult, familial and feminist elements.
Zelda Adams (USA), Toby Poser (1969, USA) and John Adams (1998, UK) are a filmmaking family that operates on the fringes of the boldest indie cinema. They founded Wonder Wheel Productions in the United States. Thanks to their DIY ethic, in addition to producing their own films, they also write, direct, act, edit, shoot and even create the soundtracks with their punk band H6LLB6ND6R.
