This programme takes a closer look at the video essay through the work of one of its leading exponents today, Chloé Galibert-Laîné.

Chloé Galibert-Laîné (France, 1992) is a filmmaker and researcher who studied Cinema and Sociology. She is currently working towards her PhD in Research and Creation from the École Normale Supérieure in Paris while regularly teaching classes on cinematographic theory and practice at universities in Paris, The Hague and Stuttgart. In addition to videos, she creates performances, projects for the stage and installations. Her audiovisual pieces have been screened and won awards at several international festivals, including FIDMarseille (France), Ji.hlava IDFF (Czech Republic), Festival dei Popoli (Italy), Transmediale Festival (Germany), Entrevues Belfort (France) and Melbourne IDFF (Australia).

To round out the session, an online discussion between Chloé Galibert-Laîné and Paula Aratzanzu Ruiz will be available on the YouTube Channel of La Casa Encendida.

Paula Arantzazu Ruiz (Barcelona, 1979) earned her PhD in Social Communication from Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, with a thesis on the cinema of Yervant Gianikian and Angela Ricci Lucchi in relation to the visual culture of medicine. On the academic front, she is an associate lecturer at the University of Castile-La Mancha, and as a film critic and journalist she regularly contributes to SensaCine, Cinemanía, Diari Ara and Letra Global, among other media outlets. Her recent publications include contributions to the collective volumes La paranoia contemporánea. El cine en la sociedad de control (Trea, 2019) and Cuerpos representados. Objetos de ciencia artísticos en España, siglos XVIII–XX (Sans Soleil, 2020).

Galibert-Laîné’s works will be screened on 25 February in the Cinema, and will be available from 26 February to 2 March on the Filmin channel of La Casa Encendida
