Rife with monsters and uncanny encounters, these international shorts explore the social ills endemic to women’s realities, exorcised by means of the supernatural and the occult.

    After surviving assault, an enigmatic 17-year-old Mexican girl finds retribution through local witch culture and her own untapped power.

    Ashley George is a director and producer inspired by unique stories and new perspectives. She recently directed the short Diabla, which has travelled the festival circuit and taken home awards such as the Golden Skull for Best Short Film at Morbido Film Fest (CDMX) and FilmQuest's Best Foreign Short. She has also produced dozens of short films and shows.

    The day before her son’s wedding, Agustina tries to have the ceremony called off. But she discovers that Emilia, the orphan girl betrothed to her son, has someone ready to come to her defence.

    Director and animator Sofia Carrillo graduated from the University of Guadalajara. She has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2018, and her shorts have won more than 20 awards around the world.

    An alumna of Berlinale Talents Campus and Locarno Filmmakers Academy, Amanda Nell Eu is currently making her first feature film, Tiger Stripes, set in Malaysia. In her work, she explores the female body and identity in the context of Southeast Asia.

    Xiomara lives with her grandmother. She likes to meet guys on a dating app called Vinder. But is she really looking for love?

    Loëlle Monsanto is a Surinamese director, editor and composer. Her first production is Sranan Folktales, a short horror series made by a team of independently minded young people, and Xiomara is the fifth episode in the series. Monsanto has resided in the Netherlands for almost three years and is currently studying Film at the University of the Arts Utrecht.

    A horror comedy about two friends whose attempts to dabble in witchcraft have unexpected results.

    Caitlin Koller completed an Honours degree in Film and Television at Swinburne University in 2012. Since then, her graduate film Maid of Horror has been screened around the world. Her short Blood Sisters premiered at the Stranger with My Face International Film Festival in 2017 and went on to play at over 20 international festivals.

  • Raising the Dead / Levantamuertos, directed by Sofía Landgrave Barbosa. Mexico, 2015. 5:20

    The protagonist is determined to rekindle the passion in her marriage, but time has irreparably worn down their relationship. Even so, she will stop at nothing to recapture her husband’s gaze.

    Sofía Landgrave Barbosa attended the National School of Film Arts in Mexico and has directed documentaries and fictional short films. She directed and edited part of the audiovisual content of the plays Bramido de ciervo (2018) and Último Reino (2019) as well as the audiovisual content of the installation-performance La vida pequeña, variaciones del mismo tema (2020), presented at Centro Cultural Frontera in Mexico City.
