'From Behind. All Over', by Arantxa Martínez

Within the programming of

Domingo 2022
10 Jun 2022
Duration: 1 hour

Reflections out loud and in person. A favourable time and space to summon the voices which Arantxa believes still challenge experience. They are the voices of women—writers, artists, friends, mothers and sisters—and their radical thinking and practices which she celebrates so passionately. An opportunity to summon them and have them help her. Now they are silent so she can speak.

“Words have their own governance, which has nothing to do with the linguistic system or the management and custody of language. Words are, among other things, the expression of life, an irreducible act in their ability to relate and spread, to echo and reproduce. Words are voice, even if it is unheard, because they are the body, linked to it through the tongue, saliva, lips and mouth. In this respect, the singular voice of words does not need a receiver to be communicated because the voice is already communication, beforehand. Previously, in becoming, the voice is already plural and linked.” Arantxa Martínez.

Languages: Spanish and English.

Arantxa Martínez is an artist, dance and performer. Her work is centred on the processes of identification, exchange and dependence between the body and its surroundings, questioning performativity in relation to these processes. Arantxa has lived in Berlin since 2003 and her work encompasses a wide range of aesthetics, methodologies and contents thanks to her sustained and habitual collaboration with other artists, such as Kate McIntosh, Juan Domínguez, Paz Rojo, Sabine Zahn, Eszter Salamon, Thiago Granato, Nilo Gallego, Antonia Baehr, María Jerez and Lola Rubio. With them, she creates practices, pieces and research projects that extend into and across urban space, drama, cabaret and, more recently, mountains.
