Family Activities November 2016Duration: | 1 hour |
Version of the Molière classic in which gold is worthless because the characters are taps, pipes and water objects in general. In this case the wealth that Harpagon obsesses about is water. Play for children from age 8.
Harpagon is defined by his greed. A moneylender and speculator, the old man has no friends and no one admires him. His desire for Mariane, a charming young woman he wishes to marry in spite of her poverty, simply makes his family scorn and pity him even more, especially when he discovers that his beloved is already betrothed to his son Cléante. But all of this becomes pales into insignificance when the old man realises that someone has stolen the box where he hoards his money. The key suspect is Valère, a young servant who has joined the household to secretly woo Élise, the old miser's young daughter whom he wants to marry off to a rich nobleman to ensure a good dowry.
