Libros Mutantes 2022. Madrid Art Book FairDuration: | 2 hours |
A special edition of Fanzine To Go where you can design and record your own cassette tape, aided by experimental comic and recording studio Rapapawn, poet and DJ Nayare Soledad, and Juan Vacas, member of the Real No Real cultural association.
Rapapawn will handle the visual part of the workshop, guiding participants through the process of designing the tape booklet; Nayare Soledad, in charge of lyrics, proposes a written “express remix” where participants will each have a turn at the mixing console and work together to select lyric excerpts from salsa, cumbia and reggaeton songs; and Juan Vacas will create a live recording of each participant’s voice on the tape.
Rapapawn is an experimental comic and animation studio created by Óscar Raña and Cynthia Alfonso. In the music industry, they have worked for artists like Holy Fuck and Dan Deacon, and they’ve also done projects for WeTransfer, The New York Times, MOOG and Givenchy. On the editorial front, where they use abstraction and sequencing as experimental tools, their catalogue of publications includes titles like HE-HE, SOPAPO and LEIRA/LERIA. As for exhibitions, their work has been presented at Mount Analogue (Seattle); DEMO | It’s Nice That (Amsterdam); the group shows Narcohumanisme. Farmàcies i estupefaents a les pràctiques artístiques actuals (Bòlit, Girona), A arte no cómic (Pontevedra) and Afinidades selectivas XII (Vigo); and in Madrid, Paris, Taipei and other cities.
Nayare Soledad is a poet, DJ, employed driver, curator and healer, as well as a twisted, obstinate, romantic transvestite. She did an artistic residency at Matadero Madrid in 2020/2021 and self-published her poetry book Bendiciones travestis y algunas maldiciones.
Juan Vacas is a founding member of the Real No Real cultural association, which organises experimental music and sound art performances in Madrid. After earning a degree in Cultural Studies with a dissertation on pre-internet postal networks, he has worked with independent initiatives like the CincaMonterde publishing house and the blog “Archaic Inventions”. As an artist, he has participated in Braille Satellite and the Fusion Festival, among other events, and presented pieces on radio stations like LYL, MontezPress and the Radiophrenia Festival. He is currently developing the sound project Miradasvacas and the Ediciones Fontenebro label with Pablo Mirón.
