The RSPV (Répondez s’il vous plaît, Please respond) edition of Libros Mutantes may be smaller than previous editions but it’s more ambitious than ever. In a year marked by the health emergency and safety measures, the independent publishing fair organised by La Casa Encendida returns in a new format adapted to the new restrictions.
As usual, the central part of Libros Mutantes is the exhibition and sale of publications, which on this occasion is structured around major collectives that have selected the books, fanzines, magazines and hybrid objects for visitors to browse and buy during the fair.
On this occasion, the Tower at La Casa Encendida hosts a project by Ruiz&Calderón, a curatorial collaboration between Alexander Calderón and Davit Ruiz who have selected a variety of self-publications by independent authors and small publishing houses that all share one aspect in common: they were created during the past year.
This is not a random decision. Since RSVP, the latest edition of Libros Mutantes, is being held in the unusual context of the new normality prompted by the pandemic, the curators were keen to highlight projects that reflect this new reality, with its obstacles, limitations, formats and obsessions about certain topics.
This year access to the Tower is by appointment only, in 15-minute sessions and small groups of four people to comply with the strict health measures. Tickets must therefore be booked in advance.
