Monnula, muñecas que migran [Monnula, Dolls that Migrate], by Tamara Cubas

The ÍDEM Festival presents the project by choreographer, visual artist and cultural producer Tamara Cubas (Montevideo, Uruguay) and offers spectators the chance to witness each doll’s first stop. Everyone who gives temporary shelter to a doll and its travel journal gets to choose the next stop on the journey.

Monnula aims to weave a relationship with each new step, a private, emotional encounter that connects the doll's historical and cultural origin with the immediate host and the next recipients.

The journey is free from all control and logic, with no instructions, no commitments and no progress reports. What makes it possible is the encounter, the desire and the emotion.

A collective performance of gestures and shared maps, Monnula attempts to create connections between worlds and people.

The travel journal that accompanies the doll explores migratory journeys through the lived experiences of the women who are often less visible in the common narrative, using different texts, dramaturgical scripts, drawings and iconographic images to create a direct connection between patriarchy and colonialism. The journal's blank pages offer each host a space for sharing the experience of their encounter.

ÍDEM invites you to become a temporary host for a Monnula doll and help her reach her next destination.

The dolls can be purchased from 10 to 30 September from the Information Point and Solidarity Ecoshop at La Casa Encendida, as well as online during the same timeframe by clicking on Tickets.

Project led by: Tamara Cubas (Montevideo, Uruguay), choreographer, visual artist and cultural producer. Tamara’s work embodies the notions of trauma, power and belonging through the media of choreography, video, photography and installation.
