From Afghanistan to Europe: Violence and Exile, by Azita Rafaat
Duration: | 1 hour 30 minutes |
Ever since the USSR invaded Afghanistan in 1979—an event followed by decades of iron-fisted control under the Taliban regime, the subsequent US-led invasion and occupation, and later the violent Taliban resurgence, now worsened by the virulence of Al-Qaeda and DAESH—the country has been synonymous with widespread violence, sending millions of people into exile.
Speaker: Azita Rafaat (Afghanistan), member of the Afghan Parliament (2005 and 2010) and former deputy chair of the Rights and Justice Party. Once the victim of a forced marriage, she now lives in exile in Sweden with her four daughters.
Coordinated by: Association of Guatemalan Women (AMG).
