Once a peace treaty is signed and the post-war reconstruction process begins, one of the trickiest tasks is often the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) of ex-combatants. For the United Nations, the DDR process is an integral part of its multidimensional approach to post-conflict peace-building and reconstruction.
