Certain indigenous cultures of Latin America still maintain circles of solidarity where processes of gender identity recognition and transition are experienced collectively.
Speakers:
- Amaranta Gómez Regalado (Mexico), Zapotec muxe from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca. Social anthropologist specialised in gender studies, sexuality and human rights. Social activist on issues related to health, sexuality and cultural promotion. She is currently a citizen assembly member of the National Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination (CONAPRED) and an expert lecturer on Indigenous Peoples at Carlos III University in Madrid, Spain.
- Brigitte Baptiste (Colombia), biologist and expert on environmental issues and biodiversity. Former director of the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute and current chancellor of Ean University. She chairs the Science Policy Advisory Committee of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and sits on the scientific committee of the global Programme on Ecosystem Change and Society (PECS).
