"The Detox Era" by Ignacio Ramonet
Duration: | 1 hour 30 minutes |
In the final lecture of the "Economics Uncovered" series, we will see how a growing number of citizens in our developed societies are rethinking their consumer habits.
Every aspect of the consumer society has lost its appeal. Today we intuitively know that this model, associated with predatory capitalism, is synonymous with irresponsible wastefulness. Unnecessary stuff is smothering us and the planet, and the Earth can't take anymore because its natural resources —even the most abundant ones like fresh water, air and the oceans— are being polluted and running out. And since many governments have turned a blind eye, it is time for citizens to unite and take action. It's time for radical de-consumption, for detox.
