"Us: Frameworks for Establishing the Plural", by José A. Sánchez

Lecture for the "To Be Public" festival on the experience of community, of "us".
Seventy years ago the sociologist Erving Goffman used the metaphor of theatre to study society. In research projects like "Teatralidades expandidas", we have inverted the operation he performed, using his micro-sociology to encourage a theatricality designed to be affected by and intervene in the social sphere. This project relies on the shift from individual to collaborative, from "I" to "us". In this lecture I propose using another of Goffman's tools—the notion of the "framework"—and exploring its potential for establishing the plural.
