Isaak Erdoiza and Nazario Díaz bring to La Casa Encendida their sonic and perceptive essay constructed around“things that sound like other things”, appealing to the slippery nature of sound. Fuego verde (Green Fire) takes its title from a text by biologist Lynn Margulis and references the first photosynthetic marine beings that transmute sunlight themselves, like diatoms and seaweed.
Aimed at lubricating the power of a collective imaginary, Fuego verde uses a device consisting of “sound still lifes” to create a sensory journey through the physicality of sound and its relationship with visuality. With its clear reminiscences of noise and sound experimentation, Fuego verde proposes a concert featuring a series of elements that displace the relationship between what we hear and the image we see, providing us a with a glimpse of the fantastical or phantasmagorical nature of sound: the threshold where presences do not always coincide with what we see before our eyes.
Fuego verde is the first work in Conversation pieces, a project that Isaak Erdoiza and Nazario Díaz began in 2020 to explore the notion of sound and listening proposed by David Toop in his essay Sinister Resonance. It explores the idea of strangeness in the spectator's sound and visual relationship by constructing miniature architectures that alter space and the perception of the things that occur in it, operating on the boundaries between visible and invisible, inside and outside, concretion and abstraction.
Metal performers is a collective formed by Isaak Erdoiza and Nazario Díaz who combine their interests in and knowledge of sound and listening, a temporal project that establishes a dialogue with other artists whose practice oscillates between music production, noise and sound improvisation. In addition to collaborating intermittently in their respective creations since 2016, in 2020 they embarked on Conservation pieces, a series of performative pieces and practices that reflect on the nature of sound and the different kinds of attention it involves, in relation to the body-based practices developed in the field of choreography.
Isaak Erdoiza is a choreographer and performer of contemporary dance. He has worked and collaborated with artists like Olatz de Andrés, Coletivo Qualquer and Maia Villot. He currently combines his research and performance creation with osteopathic studies at ESMO Sanasport, Escuela Superior de Medicina Osteopática. Nazario Díaz primarily works in the field of the performing arts, focused in particular on the tension generated between the body, the gaze and writing. Since 2021 he has been living between Lisbon and Bilbao, where he participates in the advanced performing arts creation programme curated by João Fiadeiro for Forum Dança.
