25 Questions about Madrid’s Future

Cities are constantly changing, striving for economic efficiency and better quality of life while also struggling to overcome serious sustainability issues. Our cities urgently need to replace their obsolete models with new ones that can take advantage of the technological revolution to tackle the climate crisis head-on and offer more efficient solutions to chronic problems like the housing shortage or social inequality. Today’s increasingly complex, diverse, dynamic society must take a stand against the financial commercialisation of the city.

Madrid, like every other city, has its share of conflicts that need to be openly discussed, sharing knowledge and comparing opinions with experts, politicians and social agents brought together to debate and come up with proposals for improving the lives of its citizens.

In five sessions, the 11th Cycle of Dialogues on Urban Conflicts, under the title “25 Questions about Madrid’s Future”, will build on the same theme as the previous editions: talking about some of the most significant social and urban planning conflicts currently faced by the city of Madrid.

Each session will be a conversation between two experts on the subject, with different backgrounds and perspectives, who will share their opinions on the themes and questions raised by the moderators. After the first hour of the debate, the moderator will ask questions submitted in writing by members of the audience.

Students enrolled at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) who attend the cycle and fulfil the necessary requirements will receive academic credit for their participation.
