Ema, by Pablo Larraín. Chile, 2019. 107 min.
Ema is a magnetic and impulsive reggaeton dancer. After a major incident changes her family life and her toxic marriage to a choreographer, she embarks on a crusade to regain her personal freedom, regardless of who she has to seduce and destroy to achieve her goal.
Pablo Larraín (Santiago de Chile, 1976) made his directing debut in 2006 with his first feature-length film, Fuga, having founded the production company Fábula in 2003. He gained critical acclaim shortly after for his trilogy on the Pinochet dictatorship: Tony Manero (2008), Post Mortem (2010) and No (2012). He received his first Academy Award nomination for the third film in the trilogy. At the same time, he directed Prófugos (2011), the first series produced in Chile for HBO Latin America. In 2015 he won the Silver Bear for The Club, subsequently releasing the biopics Neruda (2016), Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).
