A piece that explores the relationship between body, presence and darkness from two perspectives: a scientific one associated with the study of light as a physical phenomenon throughout history, and a more poetic one associated with the different meanings and narratives that the light vs dark binomial have had in our cultural construction.
Corrimiento al rojo [Fade to Red] is a site-specific piece stemming from the artistic research into night and darkness carried out by Paula Miralles and Vicente Arlandis (Taller Placer).
The root proposal for the creation of the piece consists in the construction of a camera obscura and the recreation of scientific experiments with filters and prisms to diffract, refract and reflect light, and also the recreation of the eclipse phenomenon. An experience with darkness and collective transubstantiation, it explores how light, space, words and sound work together and affect our bodies. The state in which the proposal places us invokes other ways of composing our sensory imagination, speaks to us of what is revealed behind the things we hide, and confirms that being lost for a while in a world full of certainties can also be a good way to live in that world.
Paula Miralles and Vicente Arlandis form Taller Placer, a place where they promote the use and creation of different types of critical practices that can be employed as tools of social and personal transformation. Their projects adopt different forms: research and publishing projects, artistic creation, training workshops, and the programming of living arts. They have carried out projects in association with leading institutions in the field of living arts research, including the Centro Conde Duque in Madrid, the Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno, MediaLab Prado in Madrid, and others. Their projects have been selected and developed through public calls launched by major cultural institutions in the city of Valencia, such as the Centre de Cultura Contemporània del Carme, the Institut Valencià de Cultura, Valencia City Council, and La Granja, the theatrical creation centre funded by the Institut Valencià de Cultura.
