To celebrate the quarter-century anniversary of the Generaciones competition, La Casa Encendida of Fundación Montemadrid has organised a year-long programme of exhibitions comprising four shows that explore the context prior to the first edition, the subsequent work produced by the winning artists, and the legacy of this initiative.
Throughout its twenty-five editions, Generaciones has cemented its status as a benchmark event for the Spanish art world, attracting the participation of more than eighteen thousand artists. Eva Fàbregas, June Crespo, Juan Zamora, Cristina Lucas, Dora García, Pedro G. Romero, Lara Almarcegui, Teresa Solar, Enric Farrés, Oriol Vilanova, Cristina Garrido, Julia Spínola, Juan López, Carlos Fernández-Pello and Fuentesal Arenillas are just some of the names associated with Generaciones.
24 Years and 1 Day (24 Jan–29 Jun), curated by Rocío Gracia Ipiña, examines more than three hundred works by the Spanish artists born between 1964 and 1999 who have taken part in the competition. The exhibition reflects on artistic interests and institutional critique in Spain during the course of the last decades.
Generation 2025 (24 Jan–20 Apr) is dedicated to the winning projects of the 25th edition of Generaciones.
Where Will the Bird that Can't Fly Go? (15 May–27 Jul), curated by Ángel Calvo Ulloa and Julia Castelló, brings together a group of creators who have taken part in previous editions of Generaciones, inviting them to develop new projects.
Gold Woven with Straw (19 Sep–18 Jan) highlights the works of artists born before 1965 who were not eligible to participate in the competition (open to artists under 35) due to the age restriction.
